Up until approximately a month ago, the automatic spell check option on my laptop has stopped working and misspelled words are no longer autocorrect, nor does the a wavy red line appear underneath it.

I thought it might be an out-of-date problem, but my system settings show that I’m up to date, it’s just the spelling settings that are missing. I looked up the two links you sent and tried to follow the instructions but my situation appears to be slightly different; I have the ‘Typing’ option in settings, but just not the ‘Spelling’ settings under that.

I don’t really know why but I tried to remove English United States from my language packs and installed English Australia as my default instead, and somehow the ‘Spelling’ settings fre reappeared, and misspelled words are now highlighted as usual. I also did notice that when I switched to the English United States keyboards, the spell-check function stops working, but it works fine with any other any other English keyboard.
I think downlload must be some sort of problem with the English US language pack on my laptop, and I have tried uninstalling and re-installing it but the issue has remained Sorry, just a noob question – how much will re-installing the Windows operating system affect my laptop right now? The spell-check had been working for a long time previously, though. Unless my system somehow rolled itself back, would this really be an out-dated system problem? Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can doqnload and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account.
